About Us: The King Adult Day Enrichment Program (KADEP) is an innovative and award-winning place where adults with acquired neurological conditions are truly able to thrive. Our welcoming environment is seen as a second family and home away from home for scores of clients, whether they’ve joined us recently or they’ve been attending daily for many years. Developed as a program for MS patients in the early 1990s, KADEP has grown to serve people with a variety of diagnoses including stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other conditions.

As a Recreation Specialist, you’ll join a team of professionals who design and facilitate diverse activities based on the interests and abilities of our clients. Through arts and crafts, cognitive exercises, games, discussion groups, physical activities, exercise programs, and more, you’ll help clients foster personal growth, social connections, and overall well-being.

We’re looking for the right people to join our staff and become part of our KADEP family, where they’ll have a hands-on opportunity to empower and enrich the lives of our clients.

Position: Recreation Specialist

Reports to: Assistant Director

Status: Hourly, full-time

Pay Range: $21-24/hour

Position Summary: This position will plan, coordinate and implement a specified number of programs determined by Assistant Director based on needs of program at the time. This position will also assist clients with personal care needs and participate as an active team member.

Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate a diverse program of therapeutic groups including individual activities, monitoring and ordering/shopping for activity supplies as needed.
  • Provide direct client care, assisting with personal care needs, meal service, activity supervision and assistance. This includes transfers, orientation, ambulation and bathing as needed.
  • Serve as a care coordinator for a designated caseload this includes, meeting charting requirements and communication with clients and families as needed.
  • Conduct assessments on clients to evaluate leisure, quality of life and cognitive functioning.
  • Schedule special events and holiday celebrations. This will require communicating with the team, entertainers, clients and families about the plans.

Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in recreation, CTRS, OR experience in running programs.
  • Current Certification in CPR, First Aid and AED.
  • Ability to obtain QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Persons) status and maintain the status.
  • Preferred minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with neurological disabilities or in a general rehabilitation setting.
  • Self-motivated, discreet, loyal and flexible team player with the ability to meet deadlines, remain flexible and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and the general public.
  • Good judgment and the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of MS, TBI and other neurological diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of emergency and safety protocols.
  • Ability to use personal vehicle to travel to and from programs in the community.
  • Ability to lift or transfer less than 50 lbs.
