Medicare Open Enrollment Period and Update

Medicare’s Fall open enrollment period ends December 7. For more information about Medicare plans, go to Medicare.gov.

Starting on January 1, 2025, individuals with Medicare can opt in to a new voluntary program called the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (MPPP). The MPPP can help make prescription medicines more manageable under Medicare by providing people the option to pay out-of-pocket prescription costs in the form of monthly payments throughout the calendar year. The MPPP doesn’t lower your covered Part D drug costs and covers a maximum of $2,000 in 2025, but it may be helpful if you want to spread the payment of your covered Part D drug costs across the remaining months of the year For more information about this program, visit Medicare.gov/prescription-payment-plan.

You can opt-in to Medicare at any time during the calendar year starting in 2025, but signing up during open enrollment offers you the opportunity to benefit the most from the MPPP beginning on January 1, 2025. Open enrollment for the new benefit year runs from October 15 to December 7.

If you have received notification of a change to your participation or eligibility for patient assistance from a pharmaceutical company, be sure to reach out to their patient navigators to discuss all of your options before finalizing your open enrollment selections.
