At the Rocky Mountain MS Center, we are committed to providing access to comprehensive, life-affirming care for individuals and families living with multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions, regardless of where they live or how much they earn.
A major federal budget bill has recently passed the House of Representatives in Washington, potentially bringing devastating cuts to Medicaid that would mean a fundamental shift in who has access to critical medical care and support services.
For many of the people we serve, Medicaid is a critical link in that care. Through our partnership with both the University of Colorado Hospital and Denver Health, we provide multidisciplinary MS care to a large number of individuals and families who rely on Medicaid. In rural areas across Colorado, Medicaid connects patients to vital neurology services, therapies, and medications that they would otherwise not be able to access. And at our King Adult Day Enrichment Program (KADEP), Medicaid is what makes it possible for the majority of our participants to access the care, support, and community that help them live full and meaningful lives.
The proposed cuts to Medicaid would be disastrous. These cuts would severely impact Medicaid for older adults, people in nursing homes, children, people with disabilities, home care providers, and families.
Raynel G.
KADEP ClientMy name is Raynel and I’ve been coming to KADEP for 22 years. I was in a car accident when I was 16 and had to have part of my pre-frontal cortex removed. And after that I lost my eyesight. People at KADEP have helped me build up my self-confidence. I now know that I can do anything and everything. Please protect Medicaid and don’t cut funding for these critical programs.
Rachelle C.
KADEP ClientI’ve been a participant of KADEP for 22 years and it has helped me continue living. After all the mishaps I had at the beginning of my MS, my body had turned on me. KADEP has given me my life back and without it, I don’t think I’d be here. Cuts to Medicaid would be the biggest mistake: to deny us the right to be whole people. KADEP helps me believe in myself and it gives my children peace of mind that I am well taken care of. If you take Medicaid away from me, you’re taking it away from others too. Think about your Mom or your children living with a disability. Any cuts to Medicaid would do us all more harm.
Jacob D.
KADEP ClientMy name is Jacob and I live with a brain injury. Medicaid is so important to me because I am able to come to KADEP and I love KADEP. All of the people - we are like a family. We get out into the community and I have a lot of friends here. Medicaid provides my health care. I wouldn't be able to survive without Medicaid. I live with a brain injury and I'm not able to work. I need Medicaid. Please don't cut Medicaid and please think about people like me and the value of our lives.
We hear firsthand how important these programs are. Medicaid doesn’t just provide medical coverage — it helps people regain independence, stay connected to their communities, and live with dignity.
The future of programs like KADEP, as well as access to care in underserved communities, depends in part on the continued strength of Medicaid. That’s why it’s so important for decision-makers to hear from the people these programs impact. At the Rocky Mountain MS Center, we believe strongly in the power of advocacy — and that includes speaking up for programs that make a difference in real lives every day.
If Medicaid has made a difference in your life or in the life of someone you love, we encourage you to share your story. Your voice matters.
