In Colorado, approximately one in 360 people live with multiple sclerosis and individuals between the ages of 15 and 40 experience some of the highest rates of diagnosis. When anyone is diagnosed with MS, it can be a very isolating experience, but it is especially so for a young person in the prime of life.
The Rocky Mountain MS Center understands the importance of supporting this specific population and has a special program for anyone aged 21 to 40(ish) who has a connection to MS. The MS Young Professionals Network (MSYPN) provides regular opportunities for young adults to share their experiences with, learn from, and support one another. Members vary in their connection to MS, some have MS themselves, some have a parent, partner, friend, or other loved one with MS, and some work in an industry related to MS. Everyone in the group enjoys the camaraderie that comes from being with other people who just “get it.”
In 2023, the MSYPN met monthly. Several meetings were focused on research, whether that was an overview of the ways to participate in research, an update on some of the trials going on at the University of Colorado, or an exclusive Q&A session with Dr. Enrique Alvarez who is the Vice-Chair of Clinical Research at the CU Department of Neurology . The group also enjoyed social activities such as virtual trivia nights and networking meetings. Members were encouraged to share the resources that have helped them on their MS journey.

Don’t Miss MSYPN’s Drag Queen Bingo!
MSYPN gives back to the Rocky Mountain MS Center through volunteering, and especially by hosting fundraising events. Every February, the group hosts Drag Queen Bingo at the Clocktower Cabaret. In 2024, this event will take place on February 23 and is sure to be a sold-out good time! GET YOUR TICKETS BEFORE THEY SELL OUT! 6 p.m. Show | 9 p.m. Show
MSYPN’s Flat 14er
MSYPN members also had a strong showing at our MS4MS Flat 14er in June of 2023, both as a team and as volunteers at the one-day community building event. In September, members enjoyed the opportunity to get dressed up for our annual Gala as attendees and volunteers.
The MSYPN would like to thank Genentech, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Novartis Pharmcueticals for their generous support of the program in 2023.
