Sparking Education and Empowerment in MS

Multiple Sclerosis affects millions of people worldwide, yet awareness remains limited. The Rocky Mountain MS Center is committed to fostering health equity by working to help ensure everyone has access to comprehensive specialty care and educational resources that have the power to change lives.

We want every person living with MS to feel fully heard and supported by their community and care team, regardless of where they live. SEE-MS aims to build more awareness of MS at the community level, and we hope you join us in this pursuit.

Why Early Detection Matters

MS is often misunderstood, its symptoms dismissed or misinterpreted. Yet, early detection is key to managing the condition effectively. By recognizing the early signs and seeking diagnosis promptly, patients can access treatments and interventions that can significantly improve their quality of lifelong brain health. From changes in vision to difficulties with coordination, early symptoms of MS can vary widely from person to person, but one thing remains constant: the importance of early intervention.

I felt like I wasn’t taken seriously as a woman, I was told to lose weight and asked if my MS symptoms could have been attributed to my menstrual cycle. There needs to be more education out there for physicians, it’s on us to help spread awareness.

What is SEE-MS, and how does it work?

We know that early detection, diagnosis, and treatment can significantly impact long-term outcomes in MS. SEE-MS empowers the voices of people directly impacted by MS to bring awareness of the earliest symptoms of MS to the public and medical professionals in rural and underserved communities.

People living with MS have the firsthand experience of receiving a diagnosis, educating friends and family, and navigating their life as a patient with a chronic autoimmune disease. For these reasons and more, patient voices are at the center of our awareness campaign.

Support Partners are those who are on this MS journey with us. While they may not have MS, the disease has impacted their lives in many ways as well. It’s critical to understand that MS impacts those around us, and therefore it’s important to have their voices heard.

A panel of MS Patients and Support Partners make up our Advisory Committee, helping to guide the MS Center’s outreach approach to increasing community knowledge on the early signs of MS. Committee members play an active role in shaping the trajectory of the SEE-MS campaign.

“As a spouse of someone living with MS, we feel their pain too. You get just as tired, you get just as frustrated, just as angry at this disease as they do. Those are all normal feelings, and there shouldn’t be any shame. It’s on you to take those feelings you’re having and turn them into something bigger than yourself. ”
