We recently received word that some people who purchased Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance coverage through Connect for Health Colorado during the 2023 Open Enrollment period may have been impacted by an error in Anthem’s in-network physician listing. This problem is known to have affected UCHealth and CU Medicine, including the Rocky Mountain MS Center at CU, and may have caused patients to experience denied claims and/or out-of-network charges for doctors they believed to be in-network.
Anthem has identified this problem and is working with patients to rectify the situation. If you think you may have been overcharged, or if you experienced a denial for something you believe should have been covered, you should contact Anthem at 855-817-4399.
For their part, Anthem is working to solve the situation and make sure people impacted by the error have options. Below is a portion of a statement from Anthem BCBS:
We’re sorry for providing you incorrect information and for the inconvenience this caused.
We understand that you may have chosen your health plan based on certain care providers being in the plan’s network. We’re working with the Colorado Division of Insurance to make sure you know what happened and to correct how we cover your affected claims.
Because of our error:
- We’ll honor your in-network discount for the covered care you received from CU Medicine or UCHealth from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024.
- We’ll send you a refund if you spent more than you would have spent to see a care provider in your plan’s network.
- You can change to a different 2024 health plan if you want to.
If you believe this error may have impacted your coverage or charges thus far in 2024, you should contact Anthem BCBS at 855-817-4399.
