Multiple Summits for MS (MS4MS) is a do-it-your-way approach to raising awareness and support for the Rocky Mountain MS Center. Whether you hike a trail, walk laps in your own neighborhood, or set out with a team for the peak of a 14er…we challenge participants to pick their own summit and conquer it with us.
MS4MS was started by a group of Rocky Mountain MS Center supporters who enjoyed hiking and who wanted to raise funds and awareness for MS. When the Rocky Mountain MS Center took ownership of the event, we wanted to make it as accessible and inclusive as possible. With the help of our King Adult Day Enrichment Program (KADEP) and MS4MS captains, we’ve added “Flat 14ers” to our list of hikes — a Flat 14er is 14,000 feet in distance, rather than elevation — or approximately 2.6 miles.
The MS4MS Kickoff on June 2 included a Flat 14er where MS4MS participants, KADEP clients, the RMMSC research and clinic staff, and RMMSC staff walked the equivalent of Mt. Quandary. Ryan, an MS4MS participant and KADEP client, participated in MS4MS Kickoff and completed 16 out of the 33 laps in his chair. Ryan participates every year because “MS4MS is a good way to meet different people, have fun, and exercise.”
Want to participate in MS4MS and join in on a Flat 14er? Our Director of Programs, Kerri Cechovic, and Development Director, Jules Kelty, are going to be leading a Flat 14er hike this Saturday, July 22nd (8:30-10:30 am) at Golden Gate Canyon State Park. The hike is family friendly and open to all. **must register with RMMSC Summiteers to participate**
