WESTMINSTER, Colo. — The Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center is excited to announce that it will host special guest speaker Dr. Patch Adams at its Annual Gala — the real physician, clown and social activist behind the 1998 hit movie “Patch Adams,” starring Robin Williams.

Patch-Red-Nose-Low-Resolution“We are very excited to have Dr. Adams join us for our premier event of the year,” said Rocky Mountain MS Center’s CEO Gina Berg. “At the MS Center, we work very hard to provide a broad spectrum of care that goes beyond just treating the disease itself. Like Dr. Adams, we believe in the philosophy of integrating patient care with all aspects of life and providing comprehensive services so our patients and their families can live life to the fullest.”

Dr. Adams is a nationally known speaker on wellness, laughter, and humor as well as on health care and health care systems. He approaches the issues of personal, community, and global health with “zestful exuberance,” according to Time Magazine. Dr. Adams believes that “the most revolutionary act one can commit in our world is to be happy.” Adams founded the Gesundheit! Institute in 1971, with the goal of integrating a traditional hospital with alternative medicine and care that combines integrative medicine with performing arts, crafts, nature, agriculture and recreation.

Adams will join the MS Center’s Annual Gala in Denver on Saturday, Sept. 12. The gala will raise funds in support of the Rocky Mountain MS Center and its many programs in and around Denver and the Rocky Mountain region.

About MS

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressive and unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts communication between the brain and other parts of the body. The severity of the disease and its symptoms vary widely from person to person. The cause of MS is unknown and although there are treatments that can slow disease progression, at this time there is no known cure. Colorado has been identified as a high-risk zone for MS by the Department of Health, as one in 550 Coloradoans lives with multiple sclerosis. MS is a chronic neurological disease that affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide. It is the leading cause of irreversible disability in young women and the second leading cause of disability in young men.
