Status: Hourly, Full-time. $21-24/hour based on experience.
Position Summary: Exercise Specialist will coordinate the maintenance and up keep of the fitness center. This position will coordinate the acquisition of physicians orders for standing frame, power plate and lite gait equipment for clients. In addition, this position will plan, coordinate and implement a specified number of programs determined by Assistant Director based on needs of program at the time. This position will also assist clients with personal care needs and participate as an active team member.
Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate a diverse program of therapeutic groups and individual activities this includes monitoring and ordering/shopping for activity supplies as needed.
- Provide direct client care, assisting with personal care needs, meal service, activity supervision and assistance. This includes transfers, orientation, ambulation and bathing as needed.
- Serve as a care coordinator for a designated caseload this includes, meeting charting requirements and communication with clients and families as needed.
- Conduct assessments on clients to evaluate leisure, quality of life and cognitive functioning.
- Perform all job tasks according to RMMSC policies/procedures, report all unsafe working conditions, immediately report all work related injuries, wear PPE as appropriate and abide by the safety rules of the organization at all times.
- Conduct Outcomes based use of exercise equipment measuring specific reportable outcomes for funding.
- Monitor and order exercise equipment and supplies as needed. Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients to exercise in.
- Perform other duties as requested by the KADEP Sr. Director.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or a related field.
- Current Certification in CPR, First Aid and AED.
- Ability to obtain QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Persons) status and maintain the status.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with neurological disabilities or in a general rehabilitation setting.
- Self-motivated, discreet, loyal and flexible team player with the ability to meet deadlines, remain flexible and adjust to changing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and the general public.
- Good judgment and the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of MS, TBI and other neurological diagnosis.
- Knowledge of emergency and safety protocols.
- Ability to use personal vehicle to travel to and from programs in the community.
- Ability to lift or transfer less than 50 lbs.
The King Adult Day Enrichment Program (KADEP) is an innovative, community-based and cost-effective day program alternative to nursing home placement for younger adults with MS, brain injury, stroke and other neurological conditions. KADEP provides a dynamic array of classes and activities, nursing care and other services designed to enhance the physical, emotional, cognitive and social wellbeing of each participant, supervised by an on-site licensed nurse and support staff.
